LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Walmart will close three Louisville stores next month, a change the company attributed to poor performance at the locations and general shifts in the retail industry.

The Supercenter at 1915 S. Hurstbourne Parkway and the smaller Neighborhood Market grocery stores at 3101 Poplar Level Road and 201 Blankenbaker Parkway will close Aug. 10, according to Walmart spokeswoman Anne Hatfield. Two of the three locations were rented.

The Supercenter employs about 200 while the Poplar Level market employs about 90 and the neighborhood market about 95.

Employees were told of the closures on Wednesday and encouraged to transfer to other Walmart stores in the Louisville area, Hatfield said.

The stores will help pharmacy customers transfer their prescriptions to other Walmart locations before the closures.
